Third-generation farmer, Democrat, and software engineer in California’s Fifth District

Principles under pressure.
Courage when it counts.

A public servant, not a politician.

It’s time our district has a real advocate in Congress.

READ KATE'S STORY

I've built a wonderful life here in Sonora, focused on working and advocating for my community. When I moved here in 2021, I never thought I’d be running for Congress.

Our current representative, Tom McClintock, hasn’t held an in-person town hall since 2017. He doesn’t live in the district. And he doesn’t listen to us or our concerns.

When our community is suffering, and our government is hurting us, and our representative does nothing for years, it’s time for ordinary Americans to step up.

So I’m running for Congress. ‍And with your help, we can win.

Why I’m Running

  • Grocery prices are rising and small businesses are hurting due to illegal tariffs. Our rural hospitals are threatened by lack of funding due to Trump’s budget bill. Our tourism industry is suffering because the Trump administration is driving off international visitors.

As the Constitution states clearly, Congress has the power to decide tariffs. It’s time we take that power back. It’s time we get someone in Congress who lives here and advocates for us.

  • I grew up in farm country, and my friends and classmates were the children of immigrants.

The rural Catholic church my grandfather helped build was strengthened by Mexican-American immigrants. When I was growing up, Christmas and Easter Masses were bilingual in both Spanish and English.

Now people who resemble my childhood friends are being terrorized, taken off the streets, and put in detention centers.

I believe every single person must be treated with respect. Our current immigration enforcement is contrary to human dignity.

  • My brother is in the Navy, and the Trump administration is betraying our service members, ordering them to carry out unlawful orders that have no legal justification.

Congress has the sole power to declare war, and for the sake of our service members, it’s time to take that power back.
